Carl Spetzler, Chairman, CEO of Strategic Decisions Group, has been interviewed by Capital Magazine in April 2016. The interview was about the introduction of Decision Quality (DQ), six elements of Decision Quality, as well as how SDG applies such concept in a commercial perspective.

Carl said the implementation of DQ would help companies to manage and navigate through uncertainties when making strategic decisions especially in organizational development, risk management, resources management and business growth.

Speaking on the local economy, Carl suggested that the government should work on developing a new positioning for the local tourism industry to attract visitors, and expressed that education and healthcare would be the two industries which the government can consider investing in.

SDG’s client portfolio spans across regions in the U.S, Europe, Middle East and Asia Pacific. The company now serves clients from a number of industries including power and utility, oil and gas as well as financial service and life sciences. Peter Hopper, Managing Director of SDG in Hong Kong, said that Hong Kong as a regional hub and the gateway to China presents a good opportunity for the company to provide consultancy services for its clients headquartered in the city.

人生每天都要面对选择,小至晚饭,大至公司并购,决定或决策都是一个不可或缺的过程。获公认为策略及创意培训专家的Carl Spetzler博士,凭借自创的协助企业衡量决策成效理论(Decision Quality),帮助跨国大企业的管理层当机立断,获取最大价值。 决策质量(Decision Quality),是SDG服务的核心,是一套实用而有系统的决策方法,协助机构改善策略性决定,并于执行决策前即时评估相关决定的潜在价值。“DQ有六个元素环环相扣,必须同时满足才可以获得最大价值,而我们的工作就是令客户在六个元素都尽善尽美,让他们对于自己的决策有信心,即使那是个困难的决定。”Carl说。 往往是面对崭新的情形和转变,企业需要做重要决定。Carl表示,“客户需要下重大决定时,很多时正值不明朗的前景,例如石油企业,面对油价走势不明,也有政治因素,以及技术考虑,加上他们一个项目需要30年才能看到投资回报,这令下决定变得很困难。我们总是对客户说,不要害怕不确定性,假如你能够做出最好的决定,对决策有信心,不确定性和风险其实对你有好处。所以不应避开风险,而是用于接受经计算的风险。” 何谓最好的决定?Carl解释道,“世上总爱以结果衡量决定的素质,但对于决策者,他们没有水晶球,不可能预见结果。只可以在当时的情况,作出认为可以获得最大利益的决定。” “不错的决定和最好的决定,付出同样的努力但是最后的效果可以差一倍。要达至最好的决定,就要让决策者明白他们可以得到更多,捕捉额外的价值。采用DQ的企业不但能有效管理风险,更能将不确定的情况转化为有利因素。” 谈及内地访客人数降低,对本地旅游及零售业造成冲击,Carl表示,“当有转变出现,有人受惠,亦有人受损。对决策者而言,最差的就是留恋往昔。为何旅客会选择来港?香港过往对内地游客有其吸引力,是否只要重回以前,情况就可以改善?其实不然。”他认为当局应该更积极的想出新的旅游定位,以吸引客源。"中国的一个趋势是中产的崛起,为何不想方法去吸引这批具有消费能力的人来旅游?应该积极点看未来,想出4-5条香港旅游业可走的路,再评定不同方案对持份者的影响,哪一个是最接近双赢的方案,损害最少,获益最多。” 更全面的报道,请查看资本杂志2016年5月刊,第348期。 决策科学大师 - 资本杂志_五月刊_P.62-63
